Richard is Chief Strategy Officer at Saatchi & Saatchi. One of the industry’s leading strategists, Richard delivers work and opinion that gets talked about, and has spent the last 30 years guiding the brands of three of the most iconic UK agencies: AMV.BBDO, HHCL and Saatchi & Saatchi.
Responsible for the agency’s overall strategic output and the effectiveness of its work, Richard specialises in brand strategy for complex organisations with multiple stakeholders and large employee bases including BT, EE, Direct Line and HSBC. 2023 saw him have renewed impact at the heart of the Saatchi leadership team, with important new business wins including the John Lewis Partnership – which saw him shape new creative platforms for both John Lewis and Waitrose – alongside directional new work to launch new EE, heralding a new era of brand-led business transformation.
Richard is a regular commentator on brands, strategy and advertising through his blog adliterate, live performances and columns and articles for trade and national press. 2023 saw him launch What The Fuck Is Going On? – which posed answers to the only question any marketer should have been asking this year – and publish a groundswell-starting op ed with The Independent on the vital role marketing will play in the upcoming general election.
He also looks after Saatchi & Saatchi’s IP output and sponsors Saatchi Open, Home and Upriser, the agency’s programmes aimed at opening-up the ad industry to more diverse talent, and is a staunch voice on the importance of mental health.
